September is such a wonderful
month! School is underway, temperatures have fallen, the harvest is wrapping
up, and even the smell of the morning air seems to change. September is also
our “National Preparedness Month!” It is the perfect time to take stock of what
you have and make a plan for what you need.
Both food storage and emergency preparedness items can be updated and
rotated. Whether you are barely starting, or are more seasoned at preparedness,
regular checkups and plans are necessary. Self-reliance is a way of life, not a
destination you arrive at. Keeping preparedness as a part of our everyday
living gives a peace of mind and security to all of our family. Remember the
Old English Proverb – “There’s no time like the present!” May the motto “Be
Prepared” help us in all aspects of our lives!
The Parable of the Ten Virgins: Last Days Warnings! - A reminder of the need to be prepared, including a quote from President Kimball on "No warnings given," and a list of things you can do now.
Planning for the Future - from Elder L Tom Perry on things we should be looking at.
Spiritual Preparedness - President Kimball's thought on having oil in our lamps.
In the Southern Utah Garden - Chores for your September yard and garden.
Using the Harvest - ideas and recipes for bottling green beans and applesauce or slices, freezing squash and tomatoes, and recipes for apple crisp, baked apple and apple dip.
